INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICES
Health Insurance
Getting health insurance while studying abroad is crucial to protect your health and well-being. It provides you access to quality medical care in the event of illness or injury, avoiding exorbitant medical expenses.
All exchange students at UFV on international mobility programmes (Erasmus or Bilateral) must have a health care plan, travel assistance and repatriation insurance in the event of an accident at the time of application. In addition, UFV may require a civil liability insurance for certain types of mobility (internships). Any of the three types of insurance mentioned above must cover the entire period of stay at UFV.
If you are a citizen of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, you only need your European Health Insurance Card, although you can also get private insurance. Click here to request your card.
The European Health Insurance Card is not an alternative to travel insurance. It does not cover private health care, nor does it cover costs incurred in certain circumstances such as repatriation, certain surgical interventions, return flights to your home country or the loss or theft of your belongings. We therefore recommend that students also take out a supplementary insurance policy (see information on “private health insurance”).
Supplementary insurance policies cover such things as hospitalization in the event of an accident, including medical transfer to Spain, or travel and accommodation for family members, etc.
Before visiting doctors and hospitals, check whether they are part of the public health system and accept the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You will find a list of public hospitals and health centers on the website of the Spanish Ministry of Health
If you are NOT from a citizen of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, It is strictly necessary to have private health insurance that must include the following requirements:
- Data of the insured person that includes name and surname
- Coverage from the beginning of international mobility to its end
- Emergency medical care service
- Repatriation of remains
- *For those who wish to carry out professional internships, they will also need civil liability insurance, which can be included in the health insurance policy or purchased separately.
