HUMANITIES: HISTORY, PHILOSOPHY AND AESTHETICS

ACCESS AND ADMISSION
You may apply for admission to the PhD in Humanities, History, Philosophy and Aesthetics by fulfilling the following requirements:
In order to access this PhD program, it will be necessary to hold an official Spanish University Degree or equivalent and a University Master’s Degree.
Likewise, those who are in any of the following situations may enter the university degree:
a) Be in possesion of official Spanish university degrees or equivalent Spanish degrees, provided that they have passed at least 300 ECTS credits in these courses as a whole and accredit a level 3 of the Spanish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education.
b) Be in possession of a degree obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems belonging to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), without the need for homologation, which accredits a level 7 of the European Qualifications Framework, provided that said degree entitles access to PhD studies in the country where it was issued. This admission will not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous degree held by the interested party or its recognition for purposes other than access to PhD studies.
c) Be in possesion of a university degree obtained under foreign educational systems outside the EHEA, without the need for its homologation, after verification by the university that it accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish University Master’s degree and that it qualifies in the country of issue of the degree for access to PhD studies. This admission will not imply, in any case, the homologation of the previous degree held by the interested party nor its recognition for purposes other than that of access to PhD studies.
d) Be in possesion of a PhD.
e) University graduates who, after obtaining a place in training in the corresponding entrance exam for specialized health training places, have passed with positive evaluation at least two years of training in a program for obtaining the official degree in any of the specialties in Health Sciences, may also be admitted.
The admission of applicants to the PhD program will be made through the Academic Committee of the program, which sets the requirements and criteria for the evaluation of merits for the selection and admission of students.
You may apply for admission to the PhD in Humanities, History, Philosophy and Aesthetics by fulfilling the following requirements:
– Being in possession of any of the academic degrees indicated in the previous section.
– Having a good academic record, both in the university degree and in the university master’s degree.
– Being able to demonstrate a knowledge of English with a minimum level of B1. If the native language is not Spanish, a command of at least a B2 level of this language must be demonstrated.
– Submitting a research plan proposal indicating the topic of the possible thesis, its main and secondary hypotheses, an incipient state of the question, a research itinerary and schedule, and the justification of the thesis in relation to the program’s lines of research.
– Conducting a personal interview with a member of the Academic Committee.
A minimum of 75% must be obtained to be admitted to the program

Admission to the PhD program may be conditioned by the requirement to take specific additional training, for Graduate degrees, of at least 300 ECTS that do not include competencies/content in research methodology and anthropological and aesthetic studies in their undergraduate curricula. This specific extra training must be passed in the initial period of development of the thesis, within a maximum period of one academic year. They are:
– Research Techniques in Humanities and Social Sciences (2 ECTS)
– Philosophical Anthropology (7 ECTS)
– Aesthetics (5 ECTS, from the subject “Metaphysics and Aesthetics”) of the Master’s Degree in Humanities.
The Academic Committee will determine whether the candidate must take all these subjects, one of them or two of them.
At least 5% of the places offered will be reserved for students with a recognized degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%, as well as for students with permanent special educational needs associated with personal circumstances of disability, who in their previous studies have required resources and support for their full educational development.
