JOHN HENRY NEWMAN INSTITUTE

ABOUT US

The John Henry Newman Institute was established by a group of professors and students from the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria with the objective of providing resources for the university community to collectively explore existential questions and seek answers.

We engage in a thorough and comprehensive examination of the issues that are of genuine concern to us. “Does suffering have any meaning?”, “Does God exist?”, and if he does exist, “Does he care about my life, my suffering and that of all men?”, “Is being free not to be tied to anything?”… We endeavor to provide answers to these and other questions from a faith-based perspective and through a sincere, earnest pursuit of understanding that takes our humanity seriously.

Some of the activities we carry out throughout the year are:

  1. Café Newman: a one-hour meeting between students and teachers that deals with topics such as love, suffering, God, freedom and death.
  2. Newman Mini-Course: a two-hour session around a literary, cinematographic or artistic work to deepen in a specific topic that arises from the Café Newman.
  3. Seminar Sense Seeks Man: a moment to stop and think with logical, contrasted and reasoned data about Christianity and the existence of Jesus of Nazareth as the son of God.
  4. Open Reasoning Horizons Cycle: conferences organized by the John Henry Newman Institute and the Open Reasoning Institute to discuss topics arising from science with a philosophical and theological perspective.
  5. God Seekers Courses: sessions in which, through different artistic movements, the works of artists who have searched for God and expressed it in different ways are shown.

In addition to these meetings, many others are organized, such as the Apologetics Course, exhibitions, the “Walls Speak” project, weekly publications, etc. For more information, visit institutojohnhenrynewmanufv.com
