SEMINAR, THE FAITH-SCIENCE DIALOGUE IN EDUCATION

The Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame, is pleased to announce the fourth edition of the Seminar “The Faith-Science Dialogue in Education.” This event is designed for science teachers (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Geology), Philosophy and Catholic Religion teachers, at the levels of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) and Bachillerato (Bach), as well as primary and university educators who are interested in participating. Furthermore, we aim to establish a learning community that will develop educational proposals and disseminate them via the platforms of the Instituto Razón Abierto.

The Seminar is held at:

From June 23 to 27, 2025, at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria. The Seminar will be held on a residential basis.

The course offers the possibility for participants to stay at the University Halls of Residence.

The deadline for registration is April 30, 2025.

Price: the Seminar has a total cost of €200 per teacher.

The objectives of the seminar are as follows:

  • To introduce Science and Religion teachers to the reflection on the dialog between science and faith.
  • To help teachers incorporate the results of this reflection and the materials used in their subjects.
  • To establish a network of teachers and educational centers aimed at deepening this dialog, continuous training, and the development of materials and pedagogical resources to achieve the established goals.
  • To evaluate, develop and share the results of the reflection and materials developed.

The activities planned for the Seminar are:

 Lectures: the Seminar will feature presentations by internationally renowned speakers on a variety of themes. We will endeavor to present both a scientific and a faith-based perspective on the subject matter. The goal is to foster dialog among participants, rather than confrontation.

 Activation dynamics: the objective is to stimulate reflection and discussion on the topics covered in the lectures through the use of videos, interactive exercises, and other engaging methods.

 Working groups: it is anticipated that participants will engage in discussions with the speakers and course coordinators to gain insights into the lectures and proposed readings.

 Pedagogical workshop:the participants, with the input of subject matter experts, develop didactic units and activities in teams to implement the Seminar’s content and insights.

 “Social interaction”: the participants, speakers, and coordinators of the seminar will have the opportunity to engage in informal discussions about their experiences and provide feedback on other matters related to their teaching profession.

In relation to the objectives of the seminar, it is important to emphasize the generation of educational proposals and their dissemination through the platforms of the Instituto Razón Abierto. Each school may send three teachers to the event. It is required that two of the teachers are from the science department (biology, physics, chemistry) and one is from the religion department. This is crucial for meeting the project’s objectives. In the event that three teachers are not available, we request that at least one representative from each area be present.
