SCOPUS
Scopus is Elsevier’s database of bibliographic references and citations, peer reviewed literature and quality web content, with tools for tracking, analysis and visualization of research.
The Scopus database allows you to:
- Perform different search options.
- “CitationOverview” functionality: The tool enables the calculation of citations for a selected set of articles, all articles by a specific author, or all articles published by a specific journal within a specified time frame.
- Affiliation or author profile: It enables an evaluation of the research performance of an institution or an author.
- Journal Analyzer: This tool is designed to assess the performance of a scientific journal.
- Impact metrics:
- SJR (SCimagoJournal Rank): This metric assigns a weighting according to the prestige of a journal. It distributes the prestige of a journal equally among the total number of citations and normalizes the differences in citation behavior across subject fields.
- SNIP (SourceNormalizedImpact per Paper): This tool measures the impact of a citation according to the characteristics of the subject matter being researched. Firstly, it standardizes citation rates across different subject areas, and secondly, it standardizes the coverage of these areas, providing a normalized metric that allows for the comparison of journals in different categories.
- IPP (Impact per Publication): This metric gauges the ratio of citations per article published in the journal. This additional metric allows journals to be compared and evaluated, thus assisting their users in making informed decisions regarding where to publish their work. While it is not a normalized metric, it provides an estimate of the likely number of citations for an article published in that journal.
- H-index: This is an indicator of the impact of a specific author’s production. This indicator provides a balanced view of a researcher’s output, taking into account the number of citations received and the number of publications produced throughout their career.
