HUMANITIES: HISTORY, PHILOSOPHY AND AESTHETICS
- TRAINING ACTIVITIES
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY COURSE (20 HOURS)
The program management offer a methodology course common to the three lines of research (History, Philosophy, Aesthetics). PhD students will take it in the first or second academic year of enrollment in the PhD Program. The specific content of this methodology course will be defined in detail each academic year depending not only on the three lines of the PhD program, but also on the specific projects and research being carried out at that time and the needs of the students’ theses. In general terms, the structure of these courses will take into account the following elements:
-General introduction to the course Research Techniques in the Humanities: Theory and Practice.
-Applications of New Technologies to Research in the Humanities: theory and practice.
-Writing Skills for Scientific Articles in the Humanities: theory and practice.
-Exercises.
The courses will consist of a graded final evaluation.
MONOGRAPHIC COURSE (20 HOURS)
These courses will have a duration of 20 class hours and will be taught by a research professor on the area of expertise. Delivery of the courses depends on a minimum enrollment of students, which will be defined each year by the Academic Committee. The courses will consist of a graded final evaluation. With the agreement of the Supervisor and the Director of the thesis, these courses may be held outside the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria.
PERMANENT RESEARCH SEMINAR (30 HOURS)
The specific content of these seminars will be defined in detail each academic year based not only on each of the three lines of the PhD program but also on the specific projects and research being carried out at that time and the students’ theses. If the diversity of the projects in each line warrants it, there may be more than one seminar for each line of research. The seminar is approved with the presentation of the work, presentations and advances required from each student for the operation of the line of research.
CONFERENCES (5 HOURS)
PhD students must accredit at least one participation with attendance and communication at conferences related to the subject of the their research and PhD Thesis. In all cases, PhD students must submit a final report to their Supervisor/Director.
TRAVEL (150 HOURS)
This activity aims to help the student to develop their research in an international context. The concrete definition of this mobility will always depend on each particular case and will be determined by the student in discussion with their Supervisor/Director. In general terms, a stay in foreign institutions should enable the student to do one or more of the following:
-Attendance at international courses and seminars related to their research
-Participation in international research projects related to their own
-Tutoring with foreign professors and international experts in their subject of study
